“The spread of Saudi Arabia to Wahhabi ideology is the root cause of terrorism extending from Africa through the Middle East to Southeast Asia,” said Robert Hunter, a former US ambassador to NATO. Pakistan and Afghanistan, pointing out that the Taliban movement, inspired by its beliefs of Saudi Wahhabism, threatens US military forces every day, as he put it.
Hunter, who pointed out that the United States allowed its allies in the region to play a prominent role in shaping American policies in the Middle East, pointed out that Saudi Arabia and the Zionist entity often had a significant impact on US policy in the region, even if this contradicts national interests of America.
Hunter also stressed that the lobbies had no influence on American politics, as did the Zionist lobby and the lobbies supporting Washington’s Gulf allies.
The author concluded by saying that the United States can find a way out of the crises in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula if it re-reads history and refrains from taking steps that might derail its true interests in national security, just as Vietnam did.
